Healthy Babies are Worth the Wait

Healthy Babies are Worth the Wait

Having a successful and safe delivery and protecting the health of both mom and baby is our goal at Women’s Health Specialists. That is why we support The Medical Center’s active participation in the March of Dimes “Healthy Babies are Worth the Wait” Campaign. An important part of this partnership with the March of Dimes is the nationwide goal to decrease elective deliveries before 39 weeks gestation.

Did you know that important development of your baby’s brain, lungs and eyes occurs during the last few weeks of pregnancy? Unless medically necessary, delivering early has the potential for more complications for the baby and an increased chance he or she will require more specialized care in The Medical Center’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

For this reason, The Medical Center has a policy in place to only allow scheduled inductions or C-sections before 39 weeks if your physician determines that you meet criteria for medical necessity. As your baby’s special day approaches, it is important for you and your Women’s Health Specialist physician to make the safest decision together.
